The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) carries out research of world class excellence in many areas of fluid dynamics and wave propagation. These include geophysical (including ocean) fluid dynamics, atmospheric dynamics, turbulence, acoustic wave theory and stochastic wave propagation. In particular the Ocean Acoustics Group has carried out several large-scale transmission experiments with international collaboration. DAMTP has, in addition, a wide range of expertise in solid mechanics (relevant to ice studies), theoretical physics, numerical methods and computing techniques. This ensures that a good level of interdisciplinary contact can be maintained at all times during the project.
