The Nansen Center is an independent non-profit research foundation affiliated with the University of Bergen, Norway. The Nansen Center conducts basic and applied research with focus on marine and polar environment. A main objective for the Center is to develop operational oceanography, including use of satellite observations, in situ observations, numerical modeling and data assimilation. The chair of Arctic ROOS is Stein Sandven, research director at the Nansen Center , which hosts the secretariat for Arctic ROOS. The Nansen Center contributes to Arctic ROOS with the TOPAZ forecasting system (http://topaz.nersc.no), and satellite monitoring of sea ice (http://www.nersc.no/~knutal/NORSEX_current.html) and open ocean (http://hab.nersc.no).
